Barber-grade, built around him

Build Your Own Men's Grooming Kit

Pick the products he'll actually use. We'll add them to your basket in one go.

Let's be upfront. We don't sell ready-made grooming kits, apart from our Soap Stack. What we do have is a full range of barber-grade beard, hair and shaving products, and bought individually they make a brilliant men's grooming kit for the man in your life.

Your dad. Your partner. Your brother, your best mate, your son who's just started shaving. Pick the products that match how he actually looks after himself, add each one to your basket, and you've put together a grooming kit for men that's built around him. Not a random box of stuff he'll never open.

What Should Be in a Men's Grooming Kit?

A good kit sticks to one routine and covers it properly. Most routines break down into three jobs, so start there.

Something to clean. Shampoo for hair, face wash for the skin under a beard, pre-shave oil to get the face ready for a razor.

Something to care for it. Conditioner, beard oil, aftershave balm. This is the bit most men skip, and the bit they notice most once they've got it.

Something to finish or style. A clay, paste, pomade or sea salt spray for hair, a balm to calm skin after a shave.

Then there are the nice-to-haves. Scissors for tidying a beard. A comb. A shaving brush and bowl if he's going traditional. Travel sizes for the gym bag. None of them are needed on day one, but they're what turns a few products into something that feels like a proper kit.

What you don't need is one of everything. Three or four products that work together beat a dozen that don't.

How to Build a Men's Grooming Kit

Four steps. None of them hard.

  1. 1

    Work out his routine.

Beard? Hair he fusses over? Proper wet shave? Always away? That decides the kit.

Stuck on his routine? Have a nosy at his bathroom shelf. A half-empty bottle of beard oil, a tub of something for his hair, a can of foam and a cheap razor. It'll tell you everything.

Men's Grooming Kit Ideas

Four male grooming kit ideas you can build from our range. Pick the one that sounds like him.

For the bearded

Beard Grooming Kit

For the bloke who's committed to the beard. Or the one still in the patchy stage who needs a bit of encouragement.

Start with our Classic Beard Oil. A few drops each morning, rubbed right through, and it stops feeling like a scouring pad. Simple as that. The Beard and Moustache Scissors are for the bits that go rogue between barber trips. And our Face Wash. Nobody thinks about the skin under a beard until it starts complaining, so keeping it clean just makes the whole thing nicer to live with.

£0.00

How he'll use itwash, then oil, most mornings. Scissors come out once a week. Or when it starts looking a bit wild.

For the hair obsessed

Hair Grooming Kit

For the man who spends longer on his hair than he'd ever admit.

Our Shampoo and Conditioner sort the basics, and if you're not sure how often he should be using them, our guide on how often men should wash their hair has the answer. Then add one styling product to suit his look. Matt Clay for natural, textured styles. Matt Paste for something rougher round the edges. Pomade for the slicked-back lot who like a bit of shine. Sea Salt Spray if he's after easy texture and a bit of volume. Throw in the Liquid Wood Styling Comb if he's the type to shape it properly.

Not sure which styling product suits his hair? We've written a guide to the best men's hair products by hair type that sorts it out pretty quickly.

£0.00

How he'll use itshampoo and conditioner a couple of times a week, maybe three. Then a fingertip of styling product in the morning, on dry or towel-dried hair.

For the traditionalist

Wet Shave Kit

For the man who shaves properly, or wants to start. This is the routine we're best known for.

Pre-Shave Oil goes on first, so the blade glides instead of drags. Then the Classic Shaving Cream. Get the Doubloon Synthetic Shaving Brush on it and work up a proper lather. Going the full barbershop? Add the Stainless Steel Shaving Bowl. Finish with our Aftershave Balm, which has witch hazel and chamomile in it to calm the skin down afterwards.

If he's ever moaned about razor burn, this is the one to build him.

How he'll use itoil first, then lather, shave, and balm to finish. Don't let him mix the order up. He will try.

For the man on the move

Travel Grooming Kit

For the frequent flyer, the gym bag guy, or anyone living out of a weekend holdall.

Our 30ml sizes fit in a wash bag without taking it over. The Deluxe Shaving Cream 30ml and Aftershave Balm 30ml handle his shave. Chuck in a Face Scrub 30ml for his skin. Hair-wise, pick whichever he'd actually use. Matt Clay 30ml, Matt Paste 30ml, Pomade 30ml, or the Sea Salt Spray 50ml. Small enough for hand luggage.

How to Put a Grooming Kit Together as a Gift

The products turn up separately, so the presentation is down to you. Good news: it doesn't take much.

A wash bag is the easiest win. It holds everything, looks deliberate, and he'll keep using it long after the products run out. A small box with a bit of tissue paper works just as well for full-size bottles.

Put the products in the order he'll use them. It sounds fussy, but it means he opens it and the routine makes sense straight away.

Then write a short note. Two or three lines saying what each product does and when to use it. Most men won't read instructions on a bottle. They will read a note from you.

Who to Build a Grooming Kit For

For your dad: the wet shave kit. Most dads have been using the same can of foam since about 1998. Show him what he's been missing.

For your partner: depends on the face. Beard means the beard kit. Clean-shaven means wet shave. Can't decide? The hair kit, because most blokes have hair. For now.

For your son: if he's just started shaving, Classic Shaving Cream and Aftershave Balm is a good first step. Get the habits right early.

For a mate who has everything: the travel kit. Nobody ever has decent travel sizes, and it actually gets used.

The One Ready-Made Option: Our Soap Stack

Prefer something already boxed? The Soap Stack Kit is the only pre-packed product we do. Three chunky soap bars stacked together: Classic Ice, Big Blue and Cuban Gold. You'll find it in our gift sets collection.

Everything else on this page, you pick and put together yourself.

Men's Grooming Kit FAQs

What should be in a men's grooming kit?▼

Something to clean, something to care for, and something to finish. For a beard, that's face wash, beard oil and scissors. For hair, shampoo, conditioner and a styling product. For shaving, pre-shave oil, cream, a brush and a balm.

Does Bluebeards Revenge sell ready-made men's grooming kits?▼

Only one, the Soap Stack Kit. Everything else is sold individually, so you build the kit yourself and it fits him rather than some generic box.

Does a men's grooming kit need a trimmer?▼

Not always. A trimmer cuts and shapes hair, while a grooming kit of care products keeps the beard, hair and skin in good condition. Most men with a beard need both. If he already owns a trimmer, beard oil, scissors and a face wash make a good kit to go alongside it. We don't sell trimmers ourselves, just the care and styling side.

Can I build my own grooming kit for men?▼

Yes, that's the whole idea. Pick the products, add each one to your basket, and wrap them up together.

What's in a good beard grooming kit?▼

Beard oil to keep it soft, scissors for tidying, and a face wash for the skin underneath. That covers the basics.

What's a good grooming kit for a teenage boy?▼

Keep it simple. A shaving cream and an aftershave balm if he's started shaving, plus a face wash. No need to go overboard.

What's a good men's grooming gift under £20?▼

The travel kit, at £15.97. It's just under the free delivery line, so most people add one small extra.

Are Bluebeards Revenge products vegan?▼

Yes. Our range is vegan, cruelty-free and made in the UK.
